One of Masonry’s customs is not to solicit members; men must seek membership on their own through a Mason they know or a local lodge.
Suffolk Lodge No.60 is open to men age 18 years of age or older who meet the qualifications and standards of character and intention, and who believe in a Supreme Being. Men of all ethnic and religious backgrounds are welcome.
If you know a Mason, you can of course ask them how to become part of the fraternity. If you don’t know a Mason, just find a lodge near you — the Brothers will be happy to meet with you for an informational session, and at some point you may be granted the right to petition for membership.
A Mason who recommends you for membership will assist with completing and submitting the application. After submitting the application, you will be interviewed by members of our lodge so they can learn more about you and you can learn more about Freemasonry.
The Process:
Your petition is read to the lodge, if there are no objections an investigation committee is formed. A member of your investigation committee will contact you to set up an investigation/interview. If the interview is favorable, your application is presented to the lodge for a vote. If the vote is affirmative, you will receive the Entered Apprentice degree – the first degree of Freemasonry. You will be required to show suitable proficiency in the knowledge of first degree to receive the second degree or that of Fellowcraft. The same requirements are required to receive the third degree or that of Master Mason. Once you are a 3rd Degree Master Mason you are a full member of the fraternity.
How to Apply
If you are interested in submitting an application and you meet the general requirements for membership (see above) you may ask a Mason who you know to vouch for you. If you do not know anyone who can vouch for you, you may contact our lodge and we will assist you in the application process. Please use our Contact Us page to start the process.
